Our best Lunar New Year Celebration yet took place earlier this month.
With a moving Lion Dance performance from Jing Ying Martial Arts as well as delicious food and light refreshments, it was a morning to remember.
What Is The Lunar New Year?
Lunar New Year, otherwise known as Chinese New Year or Spring Festival falls on different dates each year. As the celebrations follow the lunar calendar, the New Year this year fell on February 10th, 2024!
These celebrations call for time to enjoy delicious food, embrace Chinese customs and traditions, and wish for a year of prosperity.
An animal sign is associated with each year in the Chinese zodiac. 2024 is the year of the Dragon (also known as long), symbolizing strength, luck, health, and courage.
Celebrating The Lunar New Year With a Chinese Lion Dance
We were privileged to have a Chinese Lion Dance performed at our dealership in South Edmonton by Jing Ying Martial Arts!
Jing Ying Martial Arts is a not-for-profit organization established in 2008. They are one of the best martial arts studios in Edmonton and has been voted as such. Jing Ying means "Best of the Best"!
They teach their martial arts students:
- Contemporary Martial Arts
- Kickboxing
- Wing Chun
- Lion Dance
The History of the Chinese Lion Dance
"Lion Dance is a traditional dance that dates back to the Song Dynasty and is an important part of Chinese culture. Lion Dance performances were only seen during Chinese New Year celebrations in the past.” (Jing Ying Lion Dance Program)
Performers mimic a lion's movements in traditional dance costumes to bring about good fortune and good luck.
